Tuttle Creek Road Race Notes

1) Race Categories will be combined (as needed) at the close of Online Registration, which is Thursday night at midnight.

If YOU want to decide which categories are going to have enough racers to run, you do that by signing up online.

2) Registration for morning races is 7:00 – 8:30.
Registration for afternoon races is 11:00 – 11:30.

3) We have a CHP Sargeant and the guy from Inyo County Roads Dept. (who signs our permits) BOTH living right on the course. You can expect that ANYTHING YOU DO will be seen by somebody who will influence our ability to run ANY RACE, ANYWHERE in Inyo County in the future. Important things include:

a. Ride to the right in the lane where you can. The roads are OPEN to traffic, and we expect you to be courteous to motorists at all times.

b. STOP at the STOP signs. I know this is unusual. I hear it at every race we put on. Inyo County requires this of us, so we require it of you. We WILL DQ anybody who runs the STOP signs. It is the only way we can protect OUR RACE from those riders who think the rules do not apply to them. There will be a map at Registration showing the three STOP signs.

c. Use the bathroom before the race. Using the bushes gets us in big trouble. Another chance to get a DQ. Please don’t.

4) We will have the usual stuff: Hammer HEED and Electrolytes, bananas, pretzels, fig newtons, some kind of granola bars, etc. No hot chocolate.

5) It should be cool in the morning (45-50F) and warm in the afternoon (75-82F). Just about perfect race weather.

6) I like making lists!

YOUNGER JUNIORS always race on a shortened course at AntiGravity Cycling races.

For the Nine Mile Canyon Omnium, that means 10.2 miles instead of the full 16 miles.  They miss out on the easiest part of the course, about 3.5 miles worth, but they also miss out on the toughest pitch of all, right at the end.

And six miles is, after all, six miles.

Some of the fields are past the magical FIVE RIDER MINIMUM we need in order to get a huge haul of SoCal Cup Points (and upgrade points, of course).  Others are close.

Registration closes tonight at 8:00PM, so get off the fence if you are thinking about some climbing in the very Southern end of the Eastern Sierra.  I will have another update tonight…going to ride the big Kawasaki up there right now for course marking and last-minute intel.

Lots of reasons to sign up at the last minute.

No sense signing up a month early if you crash out the week before, right?  So…I get the last minute signup thing.

BUT…

There is also a lot of looking and waiting to see who is signed up.  You know, not signing up unless there are X number of riders already signed up in your Category.  So everybody watches, waiting for everybody else to sign up?

Heard from a lot of folks over the last couple of weeks that have said they are coming (or probably or maybe or something) to the Nine Mile Canyon Omnium.  Hope you are not all out there waiting for somebody else to go first.  Come sign up Saturday morning if you like.  But signing up now saves you a few $$$ and maybe encourages other folks to sign up too.  It’s like a public service or something.

FIVE riders minimum in each Category to qualify for SoCal Cup Points.  With a 2.5 multiplier!!!  We are talking about a LOT of points here.

No…not a new Hip-Hop outfit…

No…not a top secret government organization…

Nine Mile Canyon is the site of the first AGC race of the year.

Sixteen miles of outrageous climbing in the morning.  Hot food and drinks at the top if it is chilly.  I will know what to expect in advance, so stay tuned…

Eighteen (or 36 for faster groups) miles of flat…FLAT…circuit race in the early afternoon…

Drive up early, drive back in time for dinner.

Grab a gob of SoCal Cup Points.

Junior Racing in SoCal…

It is the best of times, it is the worst of times.

Best Junior club in the USA.  But then Junior races are run three at a time at crits because there is so much to do and so little time.

Money, politics, etc.  The usual suspects.

What we are doing about it, Part 1:  AntiGravity Cycling supports Junior racing in SoCal.  We will offer separate Junior races for every group with five or more racers.  We offer shorter – but still inpressive – courses for the younger categories of Juniors.
We recruit parents of Junior racers as Course Marshals at turns, at Feed Zones, and on the course.  We know you are our greatest resource should a racer need help on the course for any reason.

Specifically, at Nine Mile Canyon:  Full TT course is 16 miles.  Younger Juniors ride 10 miles.  This deletes the toughest section, right at the end, and gives more rest time to prepare for the Circuit Race.

At Tuttle Creek:  Two loops, for 20 miles.  Shortest course length of the day.  Still a pretty good challenge, with 1000′ of gain each lap.  Racers are never more than a couple of minutes from us.

We hope to have some Juniors out at each of these early season races.  Grab the HUGE haul of SoCal Cup Points available!! Fields have to be 5 of more for the SoCal Cup Points, right?

What we are doing about it, Part 2:  Stay tuned for some exciting news on the topics of education and training.  Not strictly for Juniors.  Very pro.  Very useful.  Very convenient.  More on this Very soon.
